A prom dress, a quinceañera gown and a black-tie evening dress all have the same problem as a wedding gown: bought to a size chart, worn by a person. The fitting is the same craft, and it gets the same attention.
What Nina alters
- Prom and homecoming. Hems, take-ins, strap adjustments and adding coverage where a dress is cut lower than a school or a parent allows.
- Quinceañera gowns. Full skirts, structured bodices and layered crinolines. Closer to bridal work than to ordinary tailoring.
- Black-tie and gala. Evening gowns fitted so they hang cleanly, which on a floor-length dress is almost entirely about the hem and the bust.
- Pageant dresses. Fit that survives being looked at from every angle under hard light.
- Cocktail and reception dresses. Including second looks for the bride herself.
Difficult fabrics
Occasion wear is where the hardest materials live: heavy sequins, all-over beading, chiffon that slips, jersey that stretches, velvet that marks if it is pressed wrong. These are the fabrics that make an inexperienced alteration visible from across a room. Nina has spent a career on them.
Timing
Prom season and the spring gala calendar compress into a few very busy weeks in metro Atlanta. Bring the dress in as soon as you have it rather than the week of the event. The calendar fills, and a rushed alteration is a compromise nobody needs to make.
