Mother of the Bride & Groom Alterations
You will be in this dress for twelve hours. You will hug several hundred people in it, sit through dinner in it, and dance in it. It needs to look beautiful in photographs and it needs to let you live in it. Those are two different fitting problems.

Fitting for a very long day
Occasion dresses are cut for standing still. A wedding day involves almost none of that. Nina fits mothers of the bride and groom for the day as it will actually be lived: arms raised, sitting down, moving, and photographed constantly from angles nobody plans for.
- Bodice, waist and hip shaping that flatters without restricting
- Sleeve and armhole adjustments, the most common comfort complaint and the easiest to fix
- Hemming to your actual shoes, allowing for a heel you can last the night in
- Adding modesty panels, sleeves or coverage where a dress is cut lower than you would like
- Jackets, boleros and wraps fitted to the dress rather than worn over it
- Careful handling of beading, sequins and delicate lace
Coordinating with the wedding party
Mothers of the bride and groom are usually photographed together, and the two dresses are often chosen independently. Bring in a photo of the other dress and the bridesmaid colours if you have them. Small adjustments to length, sleeve and neckline can make two unrelated dresses sit together properly in a group photograph.
Timing
Plan to come in with the bride. Occasion dresses usually need fewer fittings than a wedding gown, but leave room for a second appointment. This is a dress you want to feel completely certain about rather than merely finished.
