Custom Veils

Veils bought off the rack are made to an average. A veil made for you is cut to your height, matched to your gown’s lace, and edged the way you want it. It usually costs less than the salon price.

Made to your gown, not to a size chart

The most common problem with a bought veil is that it fights the dress: the tulle is a different white, the lace is a different pattern, the length lands in an awkward place on your frame. A custom veil solves all three, because it is cut with your gown in the room.

Lengths

  • Birdcage. Short, structured, sits at or above the chin. Suits vintage and civil ceremonies.
  • Shoulder and elbow. Easy to wear, keeps the back detail of the gown visible.
  • Fingertip. The most versatile length, flattering on nearly everyone.
  • Waltz or ballet. Falls between the knee and ankle.
  • Chapel. Pools slightly on the floor behind you.
  • Cathedral. Extends well beyond the train. Dramatic in photographs, and needs planning for how it is carried.

Edges and finishes

  • Raw cut: invisible, weightless, disappears in photographs
  • Ribbon edge: a defined outline, in any width
  • Corded or pencil edge: a fine, clean line
  • Horsehair: structured, holds a shape and catches light
  • Lace appliqué: matched to your gown, or lifted from it
  • Hand-beaded, pearl or crystal detailing

Matching the lace on your gown

The detail that makes a veil look made-for-you rather than bought: taking the same lace motif that runs through your gown and placing it along the veil edge or scattered through the tulle. Where the lace cannot be sourced, motifs can sometimes be lifted from a hidden area of the dress, inside a hem or under a train, and used on the veil instead.

Restyling a veil you already have

A veil that is too long, too full, or was your mother’s can be shortened, re-gathered, re-edged or re-combed. Heirloom veils in particular often need nothing more than careful cleaning, a repaired edge and a new comb to be wearable again.
